The good news is that M&A activity is back with a vengeance. The bad news is that it's really more of a fire sale. When the federal government is slated to be the single largest buyer in the financial services space, things are definitely tough all over. We take a look back to happier times (or was it blissful ignorance of things to come?), and offer the number and value of financial services mergers and acquisitions from 2003 through 2007. We're sure the M&A landscape will look far different at this time next year.
