Pre-retirees preserve plan assets

While it remains to be seen what account holders will do with their savings through this recession, new research from the Employee Benefit Research Institute indicates an increasing amount of account holders have been taking steps to preserve their retirement assets. According to EBRI, the percentage of those rolling over their most recent lump-sum distribution to another tax-qualified retirement plan (thus preserving the assets for retirement) jumped to 44.3 percent through 2006, compared with 19.3 percent of those who received their most recent distribution through 1993.
