Time -- and inflation -- is so cruel. Had boomer couples retiring this year retired in 2002, they would have paid $80,000 less in medical expenses.
A recent Fidelity Investments study shows health care costs have jumped 50 percent over the past seven years -- $15,000 alone in 2008, even with Medicare coverage. The grand total: an estimated $240,000 for 2009. It's worth noting this estimate assumes retirees do not have an employer-sponsored retirement health plan.
