Advisor Online Resources for Caregivers to the Aged

As an advisor who  has aged clients and clients who have aging family members, I am always looking for resources for those hard-working caregivers who may be in need of assistance and do not know where to look for guidance in a tough situation.

There was a wonderful article published recently in the Act 2 section of my local Long Island newspaper, Newsday, by Peter King regarding "the invisible army,” his name for those individuals who are the front-line caregiver for a family member. This term was created by Robert Bornstein and his wife, Mary Languirand, who co-wrote book entitled "When Someone You Love Needs Nursing Home, Assisted Living or In-Home Care:  The Complete Guide."

The book is a training manual for those seeking guidance, providing valuable information for those who need to make a decision as a result of a crisis or for those who want to be prepared in case of the "eventuality."

Two website resources also mentioned in Act 2 are Seniors for Living and Care Minders. I have personally used these sites for research for clients and have found them to be extremely helpful.

Other sites for advice-seeking caregivers are Children of Aging Parents, the National Alliance for Caregiving and the National Family Caregivers Association.  These sites are full of information to help you navigate everything from reducing stress to finding government assistance.

Please do not feel that you are alone in your efforts…you are not.  The more you reach out, the more comfortable you will feel.
