The U.S. finance industry has taken a beating for its role in the economic crisis, but according to Corporate Responsibility (CR) magazine, there are still 10 good guys, relatively speaking, in the Finance sector.
So while Warren Buffett believes that Wall Street "doesn't feel loved," CR has gone past feeling to apply the same review process it uses for its 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, then tallied scores for banks' best company practices in financial soundness, corporate governance, employee relations, philanthropy, climate change, environment and human rights.
In its sector-by-sector top 10 list of America’s most transparent large-cap companies, CR on Sept. 27 announced the best corporate citizens in the Financials/Insurance/Real Estate sector along with those in nine other sectors. Top winners in the other nine sectors included No. 1 corporate citizen Accenture in Business Services, IBM in Information Technology, Bristol-Myers Squibb in Healthcare and Chevron Corp. in Energy.
The 10 Best Corporate Citizens by industry were announced in New York on Sept. 27 at the Commit!Forum corporate responsibility conference.
“Our annual 100 Best list honors transparency across all industry sectors,” said Dirk Olin, Corporate Responsibility magazine’s editor and publisher, in a statement. “This segmentation bestows apples-to-apples recognition and reveals sector leaders who might not have made the annual 100.”
