More than 75 percent of institutional investors in the United States consider alternative investments essential to a diversified portfolio, according to a recent survey by Natixis Global Asset Management. Even further, 72 percent believe the common 60/40 mix in portfolios is no longer an efficient way to achieve returns.

These may seem like eye opening results but more importantly, among investors who have already invested in alternatives, 88% are happy with their performance. With the smart money of institutional investors flowing to alternative investments, shouldn’t you be as well?

While startling, the survey numbers are hardly surprising. Market volatility in the wake of 2008 means non-correlated strategies are increasingly critical, but which should be employed, and which should be avoided at all costs. Our panel of alt experts will walk you through.
